The Higher Education Quality Assurance Committee (HEQAC) is constituted as a Committee of the Council on Higher Education (Council) in terms of Section 13 of the Higher Education Act, 2004. The HEQAC is mandated to perform the quality promotion and quality assurance functions of the CHE.
The responsibilities of the HEQAC as per Section 5(3) of the Act shall be to:
- promote quality assurance in higher education
- audit the quality assurance mechanisms of higher education;
- accredit programmes and issue a certificate of accreditation of higher education;
- monitor and evaluate performance of academic programmes and higher education institutions.
