Southern African Quality Assurance Network Secretariat (SAQAN) Handover
SAQAN is a non-profit, organisation composed of members from national higher education quality assurance agencies and other stakeholders in the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The SAQAN Secretariat is appointed by the General Assembly for four years. The National Council on Higher Education (NCHE) Namibia served as the SAQAN Secretariat from 1st January 2020 to 31st December 2023, and CHE Lesotho took over on 1st January 2024. The NCHE handed over the Secretariat’s responsibilities to the Council on Higher Education (CHE) Lesotho at Avani Lesotho on the 6th February 2024. The Secretariat will support the General Assembly and the Executive Committee to shape quality assurance standards, practices and processes in the region. The CHE Lesotho, as the Secretariat will therefore facilitate decision-making processes, collect fees, prepare reports and budgets, arrange for the publication of the SAQAN materials, and carry out other functions as determined by the Executive Committee or the General Assembly.
